Kirk Brodie, 28, and Mark Elliot, 25, both of Bridgeport, were arrested around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, following a traffic stop by Westport Police Officer Ruta Pratt at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Violet Lane, police said.
During the stop, Pratt noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A second officer arrived on scene and noticed that the passenger, Elliot, kept receiving multiple text messages and the officer was able to see one that appeared to involve drug sales, police said.
Officers had both Brodie, the driver, and vehicle owner, and Elliot, exit the vehicle and during the course of a patdown, a scale was located in Elliot's pants and Brodie was found with a large amount of cash, police said.
Police said during a search of the vehicle, officers located 11 ounces of marijuana in the glove compartment and a loaded 9mm handgun in the trunk. The handgun contained a high capacity magazine. Due to Brodie’s criminal history, he was prohibited from possessing a firearm and ammunition. Both males were taken into custody and transported to headquarters.
Brodie was charged with conspiracy to commit sale of a controlled substance, sale and delivery of pistols and revolvers, weapons in a vehicle, carrying a gun without a permit, criminal possession of a weapon, and possession of a firearm/ammunition, as well as traffic violations. He was held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
At headquarters, officers discovered Elliot had hidden an additional .87 ounces of marijuana in his underwear. Elliott was charged sale of a controlled substance, conspiracy to sell a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia. He was held in lieu of $20,000 bond.Click here to follow Daily Voice Shelton and receive free news updates.
